Fastest growing server segment 'to be limited over next 5 years'

Blade server growth is likely to be limited by rapid change and a "lack of standards" over the next five years, it is claimed.

Despite this, blade servers are currently representing the fastest growing segment in the market, according to analysis by Gartner.

Among the changes to the market predicted by the organisation are faster input/output connections, more flexible storage options, deeper integration with virtualisation and blade server aggregation.

IT organisations which decide to adopt Blade servers need to be prepared for further changes in the technology.

"Blade servers have been a rapidly changing technology and we fully expect this to continue, particularly during the next five years," according to Andrew Butler, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner.

It was revealed recently that waste management firm Biffa agreed a deal with Azzurri after a telecoms audit of its communications found cost savings could be made.

According to Computer World UK, Azzurri will also manage network solutions on the firm's behalf, reducing the risk of network failure.
